Matthew Szulik No. 2 on CBR 10 Most Influential List
CBR's editorial team picks out its choice of the 10 most influential movers and shakers in the enterprise IT sector over the course of the last 12 months. Jason Stamper writes up the selection and justifies why each was included.
1. Jonathan Schwartz, Sun Microsystems president and CEO
A pony-tailed blogger, given charge of a technology company with a market cap of $17bn and annual sales of over $11bn? Absolutely.
2. Matthew Szulik, Red Hat chairman, CEO and president
Szulik's bold acquisition of Java middleware vendor JBoss in April had a profound effect on his influence in this market. From running a company with a Linux distribution (which really means it is a Linux support and services company, because Linux itself is free) this move made it absolutely clear that he wants to build an integrated, and properly supported open source infrastructure stack.
Nominated but narrowly missing the cut this year is Linus Torvalds.
