Computers Within A Computer - Virtualization Supports All Systems
A few euros can buy plenty of computers although they made not be made of plastic and metal. While a user cannot physically touch a virtual machine, they function just like an ordinary computer thanks to virtualization - a process that allows computer users to use multiple operating systems alongside their regular system. So testing other systems or renewing older systems that support a user's favourite but outdated program becomes easy.
The possible applications are endless, says Florian von Samson, founding member of the LinuxTag Society in Kaiserslautern. Installing multiple servers on the same computer in a business setting saves space and money.
"Customers notice the low costs of server space," says von Samson.
"Virtualization is an accelerated emulation," says Peter Siering of the Hanover-based c't magazine. Unlike emulators, virtual servers can process most demands and can access a computer's processor faster.
