What makes open-source developers tick?
A doctoral thesis submitted to the University of Zurich in Switzerland has focused on the question of what makes developers of open-source software tick. The answer is not much of a surprise:
The fun of programming in conjunction with fairly large amounts of free time are the most important factors underpinning the commitment shown by the 1,300 developers questioned. Though its overall conclusion is not surprising (PDF file) some of the details of the thesis are:

Samsung, Red Hat to Work on Linux Drivers for Future TechThe metaverse is expected to uproot system design as we know it, and Samsung is one of many hardware vendors re-imagining data center infrastructure in preparation for a parallel 3D world. Samsung is working on new memory technologies that provide faster bandwidth inside hardware for data to travel between CPUs, storage and other computing resources.
