ODF Faithful Tell Microsoft to Cut The FUD
Microsoft's pledge to provide open-source plug-ins that form a bridge between the Open Document Format (ODF) and its own Open XML format caused a stir among standards experts from companies that back ODF.
Executives with Sun Microsystems (Quote, Chart) and IBM (Quote, Chart), two of the most vocal opponents of Microsoft's heretofore staunch refusal to back ODF, indicated Microsoft's reluctant olive branch was bittersweet.

Microsoft "supports" ODF?
Don't believe for one second that Microsoft is actually "supporting" ODF. The headline reads, "Microsoft Bows to Pressure to Interoperate with ODF." Oh no, Microsoft isn't. The Redmond crew has an entirely different agenda for "supporting" the OpenDocument Format with its own Open XML Translator.
Actually, it's not even news, according to Andrew Updegrove, a partner with Boston law firm Gesmer Updegrove, and the editor of ConsortiumInfo.org.
