Open source community wooed by Microsoft
Microsoft is redoubling its efforts to persuade business leaders that it is committed to working more closely with the open source community.
Jerry Fishenden, UK technology officer at Microsoft, took to the stage at the Open Source Business Conference in London on Wednesday to promote the technology giant’s strategy of co-operating, as well as competing, with open source companies.
Fishenden told ZDNet UK that the conference was a good opportunity to address the “misconception”, as he put it, that Microsoft was anti-open source.

Samsung, Red Hat to Work on Linux Drivers for Future TechThe metaverse is expected to uproot system design as we know it, and Samsung is one of many hardware vendors re-imagining data center infrastructure in preparation for a parallel 3D world. Samsung is working on new memory technologies that provide faster bandwidth inside hardware for data to travel between CPUs, storage and other computing resources. The company also announced it was partnering with Red Hat to ensure these technologies have Linux compatibility. |

Utter nonsense from MS
Nothing but "smoke and mirrors".
MS only plays being friendly to open-source because they know they have no choice. Their traditional ways of attacking a competitor don't work! (Why do you think Martin Taylor, the man responsible for the MS Anti-Linux campaign: "Get the Facts", suddenly left without a peep? He got FIRED for failing to undermine Linux publically!)
This recent change in tactics against open-source is obvious. Anyone with half a brain knows their codeplex.com site is just an MS version of SourceForge.net!
After reading about their past activities against open-source and other competitors, I will NEVER trust Microsoft in any way, shape or form. Anything that relies on their specific tools or products, I won't use.
With the recent "Windows Genuine (dis)Advantage" fiasco, I'm glad I jumped off Windows over a year ago! (How can people still use WinXP after that? How can you trust them when WGA itself, can act like spyware?)
I will also never forget what Bill Hilf (Manager of MS Open-source Lab) said last week:
"...Most open-source code is terribly inferior to commercial software code..."
Remember folks, MS only promotes open-source only when its convenient for them. When an opportunity to kill open-source arises, they will take it. This sudden turn-around to being nice is a facade. We know how they play their devious games.
The importance of remembering IT history.
