SUSE 10.1: Stumbling on Linux Happiness
One of the books that's being talked about these days is Harvard psychology professor Daniel Gilbert's Stumbling on Happiness . One of the main premises of the book is that our long term happiness is really not dependent on scoring big wins like having our lottery number come up or getting that sought after promotion (and the salary increase and parking space that go along with it). Your happiness is determined more by small-scale positive events in your life.
So what do Gilbert and Benjamin Franklin have to do with SUSE 10.1? After installing and using it for a few days, I understand the concept they're talking about. Usually, when I'm installing new distributions or even with new versions of distributions I'm familiar with, I look for a 'wow' moment. I want to feel like this Linux distribution is going to change everything for me and be a real watershed moment for Linux. I must say that this hasn't happened for a while. So if Gilbert and Franklin are right, this is actually a good thing. I believe that with SUSE, I have realized that success for Linux is arriving one little improvement at a time.
First, as for installation, I chose to update instead of a clean install.
