Anti-Virii for Linux: Panda's and Avira's
Linux-only workstations are far more secure than Windows PCs when comes to trojan and viruses coming by e-mail. Therefore, many Linux users either don't feel the need to use an antivirus under Linux, or rely on a MTA-based antivirus such as ClamAV.
Sure thing, ClamAV can also offer on-demand scanning and on-access scanning, but its main usage is as a server-side email virus scanner.
Recently, about one month after a Beta product became available for public free use, some articles started to be written on the Linux Antivirus and Firewall Beta from Panda.
As I wrote eight weeks ago, the free for personal (home) usage AntiVir Personal Edition Classic from Avira (formerly known as H+BEDV) is not a bad antivirus for a desktop (although it will not scan POP3 traffic), and it's a lightweight solution too.
The last weekend I decided to try both Linux Desktop Anti-Virii:
*the (still free while in Beta) Panda DesktopSecure for Linux BETA 1.00.84 (a 96 MB download)
*AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic Workstation 2.1.6-28 for Linux / FreeBSD / Solaris (a 20 MB download)

Samsung, Red Hat to Work on Linux Drivers for Future TechThe metaverse is expected to uproot system design as we know it, and Samsung is one of many hardware vendors re-imagining data center infrastructure in preparation for a parallel 3D world.
