The best violent video games of all time
The US Supreme Court has refused to let the state of California ban the sale of violent video games to children, saying it is unconstitutional under the free speech amendment. We take a look at the best violent video games - not just the most violent, but the best ones that happen to be violent.
Splatterhouse (Namco, 1988)
A sidescrolling beat-em-up in which the user plays as Rick, a student of parapsychology trapped in a haunted house and trying to rescue his trapped girlfriend. Notable mainly for its horror-movie themes (Rick wears a hockey mask throughout, like Jason in the Friday the 13th films) and twisted imagery, its final obstacle - a group of angry zombie foetuses - might still, 23 years after its release, be the most disgusting video-game enemy of all time.
