Introduction to Linux Desktop Environments
When I install a Linux distribution to a new user sometimes I ask: "Which desktop environment would you like to use ?" and after looking at their puzzled face I realize that for Windows user this is an unfamiliar term. Usually they answer, I would like icons, or put that photo as wallpaper...or nothing at all.
Gnome
The GNOME (GNU Network Object Model Environment) Project was started in 1997 by two then university students, Miguel de Icaza and Federico Mena. Their aim: to produce a free (as in freedom) desktop environment. Since then, GNOME has grown and now is used by millions of people across the world.

"Famous" Lol
Although some statements aren't exactly accurate, one that really tickled me was Bohdi as the most "famous" distro that used Enlightenment. It wouldn't be so outrageous if Bohdi wasn't the latest newcomer that uses Enlightenment. Elive could be called famous for their longtime dedication to the Enlightenment desktop, as well as the many custom programs their devs created to run on it and expand its functionality. Not even mentioning all the other distros that have Enlightenment versions available that predate and have less issues than Bohdi.
