This Week's Open Source Round Up
Looks like a theme for 2006 is beginning to emerge: Intellectual property issues. Not only was GPL3 still a hot topic this week, but we found a very ambitious open source project completely laid out on the tiles due to fear of infringement. One thing seems certain: Open source isn't going to be putting the lawyers out of business any time soon.
GPL3 debate raged on this week with the uproar centering on Linus Torvald's announcement that the Linux kernel wasn't going to adopt GPL3. Lots of commentators weighed in on the controversy, but the Free Software Foundation was strangely quiet.
Meanwhile back in the real world, the ReactOS open source project ran aground in a big way. The project is an attempt to develop an open version of Windows NT and XP. This is no small job, made of course all the more challenging by the need to stay out of the maw of Microsoft's legal machine.
