Is Mac OS Lion More Advanced Than Linux?
Heavy usage of adjectives seems to be the keyword of Apple's guideline for press releases. The company has over-used words like magical, revolutionary, reinvents and advanced so many times that they have lost their meaning.
The company recently gave a sneak peek of Mac OS X Lion, claiming it to be the world’s most advanced operating system. What do you expect from an operating system? Some of the core jobs of an operating system is to be like a layer between hardware and application to identify hardware, allocate resources for application and stay as invisible as possible.
The Linux kernel has amazing support for hardware. In addition to that Linux powers mission critical businesses like stock exchanges and banks, it's used in the back-end by mega corporates like Google and Amazon; it runs the super-computers of the world; it is used by the film-industry; Linux is used in space-prgramms run by NASA; Linux powers eBook readers like Kindle; Sony Reader, Nook, etc. Linux powers Navigation systems like TomTom; Linux powers Cars; it powers the ATM machines; and Linux also powers you Android and Ubuntu. The list is endless.
In a true sense Linux combined with GNU is the most advanced and powerful operating system on the planet earth.
