Is Microsoft Bing Trying To Kill Open Office?

Microsoft
OOo

Microsoft Bing has many flaws, but this one seems to be the most outrageous one. If you try to search for OpenOffice on Bing, it will not show you the actual OpenOffice.org website but will show pages from random websites like OpenOffice.com or other non-OpenOffice.org websites.

On the other hand Google search shows OpenOffice.org as the first search result. Bing has gone to an extent that in fact you will not find the OpenOffice website even in the 5th page. So, a Bing surfer will never land on OpenOffice.org website.

The reason for this flaw is unclear:

re: Bing

Sober up Ray, it's a weekday now.

What does "Cal" have to do with BING not showing the main page of OpenOffice.org as a hit for searching on "Open Office"?

Either BING sucks as a Search Engine or MS is afraid of a little competition - either way - that's NEWS.

Bing--both.

Regardless of whether MS is manipulating Bing search results to disadvantage competitors, Bing sucks.

Sorry all it was my inane attempt at humour. I was using cal to confirm the current date, to see why the story had been posted.

I tried to search for OpenOffice on Bing and got the correct download page on the first few search options.

Tried several times always worked.

So I just assumed that someone had posted a darn April fool joke on us all.

Oh well sobre again now.

<< going back to my corner.

HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE

Ray

no problem

Go to http://www.bing.com/ and type "Open Office" in main search bar. In a pull-down menu, I get
open office
openoffice.org
open office suite
open office download

bing a boo

I went to bing and accidentally typed open orifice. It wasn't pretty.

wouldn't happen

MS, the paragon of ethical corporate behavior, wouldn't play such shenanigans.

Especially after they accused Google of doing the same thing to their site.

It must be the writer just doesn't know how to use Bing correctly.

The best way to use Bing is to start at http://google.com

  • How To Install MongoDB on AlmaLinux 9 - idroot

In this tutorial, we will show you how to install MongoDB on AlmaLinux 9. For those of you who didn’t know, MongoDB is a high-performance, highly scalable document-oriented NoSQL database. Unlike in SQL databases where data is stored in rows and columns inside tables, in MongoDB, data is structured in JSON-like format inside records which are referred to as documents. The open-source attribute of MongoDB as a database software makes it an ideal candidate for almost any database-related project. This article assumes you have at least basic knowledge of Linux, know how to use the shell, and most importantly, you host your site on your own VPS. The installation is quite simple and assumes you are running in the root account, if not you may need to add ‘sudo‘ to the commands to get root privileges. I will show you the step-by-step installation of the MongoDB NoSQL database on AlmaLinux 9. You can follow the same instructions for CentOS and Rocky Linux.

  • Self-host a Ghost Blog With Traefik

Ghost is a very popular open-source content management system. Started as an alternative to WordPress and it went on to become an alternative to Substack by focusing on membership and newsletter. The creators of Ghost offer managed Pro hosting but it may not fit everyone's budget. Alternatively, you can self-host it on your own cloud servers. On Linux handbook, we already have a guide on deploying Ghost with Docker in a reverse proxy setup. Instead of Ngnix reverse proxy, you can also use another software called Traefik with Docker. It is a popular open-source cloud-native application proxy, API Gateway, Edge-router, and more. I use Traefik to secure my websites using an SSL certificate obtained from Let's Encrypt. Once deployed, Traefik can automatically manage your certificates and their renewals. In this tutorial, I'll share the necessary steps for deploying a Ghost blog with Docker and Traefik.
