No good deed goes unpunished
Local politician who runs a telemarketing business on the side calls the company where this pilot fish works. "She calls us because she knows my boss gives her free help," says fish. "She quickly asks, 'Do you know Unix? The computer that runs my call center is telling me it's got a bad block!' "
"I get to her office and walk in. She greets me with 'I have to tell you the history of this server. It was bought about nine years ago. The maintenance agreement on it was too expensive so I decided to not purchase it. When Y2k rolled around, they offered to patch it, but the price was too much, so I just rolled the date back 30 years and it works fine.' "
Nine years? Thirty years? Fish starts to get worried. What has she gotten into by offering to do this service call?
