Stuff That Works With Linux #4
HOW'S your paranoia?
Given that the majority of my digital files include nothing more than MP3s and family photographs, I'm fairly relaxed about how I secure the digital data I carry around with me.
But if you're used to carrying sensitive material, whether personal or professional, then I have just the device for you - the iStorage DiskGenie (www.istorage-uk.com).
The DiskGenie is a small but lovely piece of kit, shrouded in a very tactile, matte black casing, and sporting 250GB-plus of storage space for your files (prices start at £113.85p for the 250GB version).
But what really sets it apart from the mass of portable, external HDDs is the fact that it comes with 6-16 character, PIN-key access, just like your high street ATM.
Add to that AES-256bit hardware encryption, shock-mounting for safety, and the fact that the DiskGenie works just as well with Windows, Mac and Linux computers, and you can begin to see why I felt it was worth a short feature.

Samsung, Red Hat to Work on Linux Drivers for Future TechThe metaverse is expected to uproot system design as we know it, and Samsung is one of many hardware vendors re-imagining data center infrastructure in preparation for a parallel 3D world. Samsung is working on new memory technologies that provide faster bandwidth inside hardware for data to travel between CPUs, storage and other computing resources. The company also announced it was partnering with Red Hat to ensure these technologies have Linux compatibility. |
