For those about to Rock - Gentoo-based electronic guitar
If you play the guitar then the thought of games like Guitar Hero might make you think easy introduction to the guitar or bad idea as it stops kids picking up a real instrument. The Misa Digital Guitar is a completely different animal, though.
It has no strings, instead replacing them with buttons and a touchscreen input while retaining the shape and hand positions of a traditional electric guitar. So you may wonder exactly what the point of such a device is.
As well as opening up a new way to play electronic music the Misa Electric Guitar also encourages experimentation and collaboration. At its heart is open source software running on Gentoo with the 2.6.31 Linux kernel. It requires a MIDI capable sound module for output and also has Ethernet and a SSH Server built-in.
