I just finished reading your article and must say I felt the same way.
What broke the camels back for me was when Microsoft said no more XP. Remember way back then when they first announced it? To give you a time-line, Ubuntu’s Feisty Fawn had just been released. I was then determined to keep Microsoft’s greedy hands from taking money from my pockets ever again.
I needed to find out what flavor of Linux was the most user friendly.
Everything that I Googled and the forums I went into all said Ubuntu. I then downloaded my first free, Live-CD of Ubuntu Fiesty Fawn.
There was a learning curve but to this very day (June 12, 2009) all 3 house PC’s and my laptop run Ubuntu Linux! I never ever again have touched a Microsoft product.
The open source community is a gift from God to say the least. You are 100% right when you said Linux is ready for the desktop but the Windows users are not.
