My PCLinuxOS 2009.1 Desktop
Not too long ago PCLinuxOS released two versions of the PCLOS 2009 distribution. One uses KDE 3.5, the Other uses Gnome 2.24.3. So, I was faced with a decision. Which of the two would I choose for my primary desktop system? I am one of those people who really like both graphical desktops. There are some KDE apps that I like better than the Gnome counterparts. Conversely, there are aspects of Gnome that I favor over KDE. Decisions, decisions.
OK, so I installed both versions to one of my hard drives for testing. I reluctantly decided to go with the PCLOS Gnome for my primary desktop system. I removed Abiword and installed Open Office. I added some other apps. and I was good to go. The PClinuxOS Gnome distribution was fast, stable and responsive. All of the installed software worked the way it is supposed to work. But after about a week I found myself missing some KDE apps..
