At 17, Is Linux Still Wet Behind the Ears?
It was a big week for our favorite technology last week, as true believers no doubt already know.
Not only was Linux 2.6.27 released -- causing no small amount of discussion on Slashdot -- but the operating system itself also turned 17 years old.
The Linux Journal article noting that momentous day had already received well more than a thousand Diggs by Friday, in addition to nearly 300 comments in the Slashdot world and plenty more beyond.
"To Richard and Linus, and to those who have picked up the tools and run with them: Thanks for my vocation, my hobby, my passion, and my computing freedom," wrote dthacker on LXer.
Happy Birthday, Linux, from the Tux fan club here at LinuxInsider too!

Is Linux {MATURE ENOUGH}^TM?
"Linux turned 17 this week, just short of adulthood in most places. However, is it mature enough for the mass market? It's a question often asked on the Linux blogs, but the answers still keep coming: Sure it is; no it isn't; it doesn't matter."
Is Linux {MATURE ENOUGH}^TM?
Yes, Charlotte, it already runs perhaps most of the world's servers and almost every top computer. Computer != desktop and Linux != GNU/Linux/GNOME/KDE
They promote this notion of "Mac succeeding, Linux failing" despite the fact that Macs are a niche and Linux is everywhere (including desktops where it cannot be counted properly)
To Linux, On Your 17th Birthday
Happy birthday, Big L. Now that you're old enough to get into an R-rated movie without an adult guardian, here's a little heart-to-heart from someone who's been watching you grow up.
You're a pretty cocky kid, and that's not a bad thing. You play by your own rules, and what's funny is that you've gotten more than a few people to join you. You've managed to get involved in a lot of things: phones, media players, embedded devices, thin clients, headless servers -- and oh, yeah, the occasional desktop computer as well. Pretty good going.
Thing is, you have this itch about authority. It's something I love, but I gotta say, it drives me crazy sometimes.
