Review: antiX Mepis 7.5 'Toussaint Louverture'
As a live CD antiX is quite superb: It loads very quickly, runs really smoothly and has enough software to keep me productive.
The basics are covered with applications like Iceweasel (browser), Claws (email), Abiword (word processor), Gnumeric (spreadsheets, Leafpad (text editor) Xmms (music player), gxine (DVD player) and Mplayer (videos).
In the live CD (and also in the installed version) I was able to listen to MP3s, play .AVI videos, watch Apple movie trailers on the internet, watch YouTube videos and listen to streamed radio from the BBC website.
The only hitch came when trying to watch a commercial DVD, which refused to play in both Gxine and Mplayer.
Most pleasing, however, was the fact that the Wicd wi-fi application had picked up my Intel/PRO NIC, detected my network and, once I entered my encryption key I was online in minutes.
