Mandriva 2008 - Best Linux for Laptop
I was working on getting my Laptop(LG RD400) to work with Linux. I was looking forward to some Linux Distribution that would support all my hardware out of the box, specially my WLAN(Wifi), as this is the only piece of hardware that is usually gives trouble with Linux. I have WLAN based on Atheros 5006X chipset(though it is shown as 5007AG in Linux).
So I tried all major Distros like Ubuntu, OpenSUSE, Fedora, DreamLinux etc. But most of them didn't detect my wifi card. Few of them did detect my wifi card correctly but still there was no option to Configure or to make my WLAN work so that was useless.
Finally, after trying lots of these Distros daily I finally tried Mandriva Linux One 2008 Spring. I was so tired of trying all one after another that I had a perception that nothing would work out of the box but fortunately, I was wrong, I just tried Mandriva Live after downloading and it detected my wifi card and there was a simple GUI(Graphical User Interface) where I could serch my Access Point and connect. And in just 2 Minutes my WLAN was working.
