Was leaving MS and opting for Linux a good move?
It's been three years now since I started using Linux, which I think is a reasonable time to look back and evaluate that move.
Having had some CP/M and OS/2 boxes over the years, it is since Win95 that I only had Microsoft (Win95, 2K, XP) on my desktop at home.
I've always felt that Microsoft does not care very much for the home user, as their systems are clearly marketed at businesses, where a team of well-trained IT personnel manage the ‘behind the curtain’ stuff such applying patches, running a corporate security policy (AV, firewall, network protocols,...) all this by spending a good amount money on decent and need to have tools, applications and support.
At home, MS is not for the faint of heart who are trying to set the system up, looking for compatible drivers all over the net. It is so difficult that it comes pre-installed on almost all PCs and Laptops you buy.
