Last Prosecution Witness to Take Stand in Hans Reiser Murder Trial
The Hans Reiser murder trial reaches a milestone Monday, when the prosecution is expected to put on its last witness -- three months after jurors began hearing some 50 witnesses here in Alameda County Superior Court.
The authorities have flown Irina Sharanova from Russia to take the stand. She is the mother of Nina Reiser, 31,the open source programmer's estranged wife. The wife vanished Sept. 3, 2006 after dropping off the divorcing couple's two young children to Hans Reiser's residence in the Oakland hills for the Labor Day weekend.
Sharanova's testimony is expected to pick up where the trial began in November, when one witness after the other took the stand and testified that Nina Reiser was a wonderful mother and would never voluntarily abandon her children. That's important testimony as Hans Reiser, the operator of Namesys, claims his wife left Oakland for Russia -- that she is still alive.
And:
Nina Reiser's mother broke down at her son-in-law's murder trial here Monday, moments after taking the stand and testifying that Nina Reiser was her only child.
Irina Sharanova is the final of more than 50 prosecution witnesses in the 3-month-long trial in which the authorities accuse Nina Reiser's husband, Hans Reiser, of killing his wife to end a bitter divorce and child custody battle.
