News from DistroWatch.com
As you may have noticed, DistroWatch.com is now back up. The attack continues, but Ladislav was able to bring the site back online after ruthless DDOS attacks rendered the site inaccessible for much of the weekend.
DistroWatch.com was knocked offline Saturday evening by an intentional and ruthless DDOS attack. The site remained offline throughout Sunday and early Monday mornings, appearing again as many in the US were enjoying their morning coffee.
Ladislav states that while the attack continues, he was able to block a major portion of the offending IPs and restore access. He was glad it occurred over the weekend when regular use is a bit slow and glad he was able to bring the site back online as many Americans returned to their work week.
At this time, Ladislav labors away uploading files and updating the site. He hopes to have this week's DistroWatch Weekly published by Wednesday and states, "I'll do my best as always."
Yes, he does. The Linux community owes a large debt to the tireless efforts of this giving humanitarian. Ladislav and his site have become the indispensable and irreplaceable authority on free BSD and Linux distribution history, developments, and releases. The community would be a sadder place without him and his site. Tuxmachines is proud to call him a friend. And he is one of the greatest friends of the entire Linux community and we hope he knows how much we all appreciate his hard work and are outraged by this selfish and heartless attack.
He and I both thank everyone for their concern and the many emails of encouragement.
