Microsoft announces Linux-powered WiFi bus route for employees
In a positive effort to ease the commute of its employees, Microsoft has announced a new bus route that will reach to various local regions. Set to begin later this month, a total of five routes will stretch to Seattle, Issaquah, Mill Creek, Sammammish, and Bothell.
They will have an initial capacity of 1,000 riders in 14 buses at launch, with the potential to add more capacity depending on employee demand. In addition to WiFi, the buses will also feature bike storage and electrical outlets at each seat, and employees can sign up, reserve seats, and track bus locations via an internal service that Microsoft developed.
In an ironic twist, however, Todd Bishop of the Seattle PI learned that the WiFi on the bus lines is powered by none other than Linux.
