Mandriva opens Linux development center in Russia
Mandriva, the official producer of Linux distribution has opened an office in St. Petersburg. One of the main tasks of the company’s representation is to help its Russian users avoid claims on behalf of the governing bodies which not always know the peculiarities of Linux OS licensing. Meanwhile, Linux might be introduced in many of St. Petersburg schools.
Mandriva representation, the official producer of Linux distribution, has started its work in Russia’s Northern capital. The office was opened on the basis on the Linux Center company. “Linux Center has been the official distributor of Mandriva in Russia for a long time. That is why it was quite reasonable to open an official representation of the developer on the basis of our company”, Sofya Vinnichanko, Linux Center Executive Director told CNews.
She said Mandriva Linux users will be offered technical support in Russian online, through e-mails and telephone. Distribution buyers will be given official license based on GNU/GPL to avoid claims from governing bodies, which quite often do not know much about Linux licensing.
