In Photos: Linux penguin to race in the Indy 500
Penguins, start your engines. If you watch the Indianapolis 500 on TV this Sunday, look closely at the blue car No. 77 and you might see a penguin running over 250 mph.
Two enthusiasts have taken it upon themselves to make Linux a household name by organizing a grassroots effort called Tux 500 to raise money to help sponsor an Indianpolis 500 race car operated by Chastain Motorsports.

Samsung, Red Hat to Work on Linux Drivers for Future TechThe metaverse is expected to uproot system design as we know it, and Samsung is one of many hardware vendors re-imagining data center infrastructure in preparation for a parallel 3D world. Samsung is working on new memory technologies that provide faster bandwidth inside hardware for data to travel between CPUs, storage and other computing resources. The company also announced it was partnering with Red Hat to ensure these technologies have Linux compatibility. |

Free publicity
See? It's a success.
re: Free publicity
"Moore says that the Linux logo will stay on the car, its size and prominence will be determined by the amount of money collected."
Those "pic's" are pre-race day configuration. Since the goal was $350,000 and they came up with about $17,000 (about 5% of their target) we'll see what size and placement actually shows up on race day (well I won't, I don't get the mental fascination with watching a bunch of go-karts go around the same circle for hours on end).

oh, that's right. probably end up being about the size of my favicon.
flavorful recomendations
Well Skipster, never let it be said that I am not helpful. Fact is, I may be able to offer you some advice you might find useful.
There was never a chance that this project would fail in achieving the minimum associate sponsorship. Since this is only the first campaign in a planned marketing effort, neither Bob Moore or I were going to allow it to fail. No one ever expected us to come close to the stated full sponsorship goal, it was simply a target. Then again, given the number of Linux Users world-wide, it wasn't an impossibility.
Oh, my advice...? I am an armchair wine snob. Having lived in Europe for a number of years and living among the most elite of snobs, I came to appreciate their audacity. Personally, I recommend a Pinot Noir from the Burgundy Region. Yes it is a bit pricey but it is renowned for its fidelity to fowl. While I find it best with small game birds such as quail and spit-roasted pigeon, it is also an exquisite match for a finely prepared presentation of crow.

So how big is the logo gonna end up being?
As of now...
It will remain just as it is. The chances are slight but there may be a possibility of an additional mention in another place on the car, but I'm not going to count on it. What we have is really good now and I don't want to push our luck. Those guys have treated us fairly to say the least. The going price for prominent nose cone placement on almost any other car or team is 50K.
