South Chilean penguin strays to Peru
A Magellanic penguin has stunned scientists by showing up in Peru, some 5,000 kilometers (3,000 miles) from home in southern Chile.
The penguin "got off course," said Miguel Lleellish, of the National Institute of Natural Resources told AFP.
The penguin appeared to have been acting alone and not as part of a migration, he said.
The bird, so far unnamed, has taken up residence in the reserve, but Orosco fears that the undue attention could be worse for the penguin than the change in climate, possibly causing a fatal case of stress.
