"China is the fastest-growing mobile market in the world, expected to have over 400 million subscribers by the end of 2005," said Opera's chief executive, Jon S von Tetzchner. "It is an exciting and important market for us."
Opera's browser will be used in the ZTE e3, an advanced Linux-based smartphone geared toward the Chinese business market.
ZTE is a major telecommunications equipment maker. The smartphones double as computers, offering mobile Internet surfing and e-mail. They can also be used as personal entertainment units.
Opera's browser already has won widespread praise for being compact and fast. It's increasingly being used on mobile phones and personal digital assistants.
