The Sorry State of WiFi Support with Feisty Beta
I have been keeping up with most of the reviews for the new beta release of Ubuntu Feisty with great interest. As a full-time user of Ubuntu Dapper and Edgy, I’m, to say the least, "comfortable" in all aspects of getting the most from my Linux experience.
When I first burned a copy of the new beta ISO, I was looking forward to completing what I was hoping to be a glowing review, despite the expectation of a few minor bugs. What I found instead, was a show-stopping issue for a large number of Ubuntu notebook users. I could hardly believe it.
Integrating Network Manager: A Double-Edged Sword. If I was to describe a single thing that Linux developers excel at, it's what I call the horse and buggy syndrome. Take the desire to make zero-configuration a reality. A noble and worthwhile idea, I suppose, it should still be taking a backseat to other, more pressing network matters.
Thanks to the inclusion of this exciting technology, we are now rolling back the clock for those who do not possess the "ideal" notebook configuration to make it work. Wow, I sincerely hope you read this before the distribution goes live and out of beta...

I recently received a note that could very well be the making of history. Even with the obvious distaste coming from Microsoft, we are witnessing Dell looking to offer Linux as an OS option.
This is an enquiry e-mail from via http://www.osweekly.com/ from:

Hi Matt, saw your article about Dell and Linux and as we examine various options we would like some additional input from customers. You might find this blog posting of interest.
To say that I’m completely blown away would be an understatement. Dell is indeed, going to be selling Linux boxes of the user's choosing (by vote, of course).

Samsung, Red Hat to Work on Linux Drivers for Future TechThe metaverse is expected to uproot system design as we know it, and Samsung is one of many hardware vendors re-imagining data center infrastructure in preparation for a parallel 3D world.
