The image of Linux.
Linux is a great operating system. That's my opinion. I think it is better than any other operating system around. Not everybody views Linux this way and it is the general image of Linux that is holding it back from exploding into the general population.
Linux is seen as the underdog, the toy for geeks. It is believed to be hard to use, hard to install and hard to configure. That is from highly technical people who should know better. People think that it has no software that can be used for anything, they think that it is buggy and crashes all the time, they think that there is no support for that software. Of course I am assuming that those people have even heard of Linux. Most have just heard the name and know nothing else about it. Those that do know something about it feel that there is no driver support, the hardware doesn't work as well and Linux will only work on a limited range of hardware.
Those who really know Linux know that this is not true.
