An Update On Server/Site Move
Well, I guess we'll go with this debian install. I still haven't worked out all the kinks yet cuz my gran'babies came over today and I didn't get a chance to work on things. I took the opportunity to upgrade drupal as you may have noticed too, and it was a much easier upgrade this time. No manual database fiddlin' required. Although we did lose some of our nice features.
There doesn't seem to be an "excerpt" module for 5.1 for one thing. That's a big ole bummer. The previous, more discreet, paypal module doesn't work with drupal 5.1 and I had to go with this gawdier uglier version. Sorry about that. Mainly I'm having major difficulties with sendmail. It just refuses to work. I've fought the sendmail battles a few times in the past, but I think it's gonna beat me down this time. I'm actually considering postfix or some other app, suggestions welcomed.
So, for the next day or two, if you have signed up at tuxmachines and haven't received your first-time login password, you can email me at tuxmachines.at.gmail.com and I'll set you up one and send you an email. But do please include your username used.
The rss feed from the gallery is broken as well. Another "I'll get it later" situation. I attempted to upgrade it to the latest stable, but the import of the albums didn't work, so I'll try again later after we have the server working well.
I'm not sure all will come back up automatically after reboot yet. So, there will be further restart tests later on tonight or in the wee hours of the morning. We shouldn't be down too long at a time for those.
There is a new theme available for those who create an account and like to log in. It is called bluebreeze and looks really good. I almost went with it as default. If you notice any site elements missing from it, let me know.
Also if there are other Debian etch on server users, I could use some advice on how often you recommend updating apps. I really plan to sit tight for the most part until it goes stable and hopefully update to stable at that point. I'd appreciate some input on that as I'm a noob to debian.
Anyway, thanks everyone for your patience and I hope the worst is over.

Samsung, Red Hat to Work on Linux Drivers for Future TechThe metaverse is expected to uproot system design as we know it, and Samsung is one of many hardware vendors re-imagining data center infrastructure in preparation for a parallel 3D world. Samsung is working on new memory technologies that provide faster bandwidth inside hardware for data to travel between CPUs, storage and other computing resources. The company also announced it was partnering with Red Hat to ensure these technologies have Linux compatibility. |

re: sendmail
Postfix is always my first MTA choice, then Exim. Only with weapons or large wads of cash waved in my direction will I consider working on Sendmail.
I always run two identical boxes - one production, one testing - and always have complete partition images to restore from if something goes to horribly wrong. That way everything is played with in the sandbox before rolling out to production (plus once you're happy with testing, you just rsync to main).
As I'm sure you know, the safest action is to let production systems alone unless there's a security or stability issue.
re: sendmail
I got frustrated and removed all of sendmail including config files - outta here! I did apt-get install postfix and dpkg asked a coupla questions and it's working. No fuss, no muss!
