If you are a regular to tuxmachines, you have probably noticed the unusual amount of downtime the past 18 hours. My mysql has crashed several times with no discernable pattern in the error logs. I've known for several weeks that a change in server system was imminent, but was hoping I could hold out until the upcoming release of Debian.
My current system is based on an aging gentoo 2.4.x kernel with devfs install. Upgrading applications has grown increasingly difficult until we reached a crisis a few weeks ago. Long story short, the last update broke several systems and we ended up restoring a backup. Since that time, things have not been running very well and we have suffered occasional crashes of different things. Today mysql is melting down pretty fast and we feel a clean start would be advisable.
Please expect further downtimes over the next few days due to continued mysql and other crashes, a new system install, booting back & forth, configuration, testing, etc. We are in for a rocky weekend.
My most sincerest apologies to all and we ask for your patience as we make this transition.
