Linspire CEO Robertson: A Hero Among Geeks?
While it's made Michael Robertson a hero among geeks, his practices have also thrown him into legal trouble with companies that guard the rights to their ideas, including a two-year epic battle with Microsoft, over Robertson's Lindows operating system. Lindows name changed to Linspire in April 2004, as part of a $20 million settlement with Microsoft.
At 39, Michael Robertson is one of the youngest San Diegans to ever make the list of the wealthiest area residents (No. 23) without the good fortune of having parents who built his business.
Robertson is the chief executive officer of San Diego-based Linspire, a company that produces a license-free desktop Linux operating system that is gaining market share on Microsoft Windows.
