A realistic look at Ubuntu Linux on the Desktop
So.. I've just spent my first few days on a new machine, purchased specifically for linux to replace my windows XP desktop. So far, the Windows machine has sat in the corner unused.
So.. Is Linux ready for mainstream? I'm going to focus on Ubuntu here.. because that's what I know, and as far as I can tell it's ahead of the curve.
Question 1. Is Linux ready for your granny to use?
Absolutely – but maybe that's not the right question because your granny will no doubt just take whatever is in front of her and use it as is. Linux is totally 100% capable here, and better than Windows in almost every way, especially in terms of security and price!

Samsung, Red Hat to Work on Linux Drivers for Future TechThe metaverse is expected to uproot system design as we know it, and Samsung is one of many hardware vendors re-imagining data center infrastructure in preparation for a parallel 3D world.
