Samba says Novell-Microsoft deal sucks
THE OPEN SOURCE guys at Samba hit out at Novell's rapprochement with Microsoft, saying they disapproved strongly of the former Utah firm's actions.
In a letter to customers, Sambas pointed out that one fundamental difference between Microsoft proprietary software and open source software was that the former divides and conquers with "coercive licensing agreements".
The open source world, on the other hand, "encourages users to unite and share the benefits of the software."
Sambas said that the patent deal Microsoft and Novell jointly forged is "divisive".

Samba Team Asks Novell to Reconsider
The Samba team has issued a strongly worded statement condemning Novell's actions, and it asks Novell to reconsider. I reproduce it here, for the record, in full.
Full Story.

You talk the talk, but do you waddle the waddle?
Samba and OpenOffice.org
Interesting how Samba got it right, and OpenOffice.org got it so wrong. I am sure that Novell/SUSE won't reconsider the deal, and the Samba guys know this--still it's nice to know that Samba isn't interested in becoming a Microsoft whore in waiting.
re: samba
Just for the record, my money's on Ray Noorda coming back from the dead over Novell coughing up Microsoft's 340 MILLION dollars just because SAMBA has their panties in a knot.
Too many "doom and gloom" predictions with very little data to go on. All these back-seat MBA's need to give it a bit of time and see how it plays out.
The old business adage, you snooze you lose, applies here. If anyone had the money to buy into Novell before Microsoft did, they should have done so, now it's just a bunch of whiners and their should'a, would'a, could'a's press whoring.

VS, I sometimes wonder how much Novell/SUSE stock investment you have?
