Final Fantasy XII
Final Fantasy is touted by Square-Enix as the most popular RPG franchise in the world. As one of the longest-running franchises in gaming, the numerous titles in the series have garnered very polarizing responses from gamers. Any three fans of the Final Fantasy titles will often give three completely different responses about the series, even when it comes to titles often regarded as black marks, such as VIII and X-2. Few would argue that for the last few years, the franchise has been drifting aimlessly along with some ill-conceived releases, including the questionable decision to make a sequel title in X-2 and the simply horrible decision to make an action title in Dirge of Cerberus. No original, single-player Final Fantasy title in the main numbered series has been released for more than five years since Final Fantasy X.
Thus, Final Fantasy XII debuts with a high degree of anticipation. It is a notable entry in the series because it changes may of the rules that FF games have followed for some time. It uses an entirely new battle mechanic different than the traditional "Active-Time Battle" found in most FF titles.
