Automobile Association takes Linux for a drive
The Automobile Association of South Africa (AA) has given Linux its roadworthy certificate for use as a web and database server solution in its organisation, following a trial run that the AA says proved very successful.
"After struggling with leased solutions in the past, which brought with them problems in terms of support and licensing, it was decided that AA Test & Drive needed a high-availability web and database server solution," says Greg Tourell, AA chairman. "Along with this would come the requirements of a reliable service and if a failure ever occurred, the AA would require a backup of the original system that could replace the faulty system with a minimal amount of downtime."
It was decided that the association should move to Red Hat Enterprise Linux as a platform for this new solutions.
