Some site news
In light of the malware scare yesterday, I thought it might be prudent to make sure everything else was up-to-date on security fixes as well. Got off pretty easy that it was only openx (which btw was the latest release) that may have been compromised - easy to purge.
So, last night I updated the server with the latest Lenny and security fixes. I was updating from Etchandahalf, so I was a bit nervous, but it went off without a hitch. Didn't really have much choice tho, as Etch had disappeared from mirrors.
In addition, yes, Drupal was a bug fix release or two behind too as well as a few modules. That update went really smoothly too! I can hardly believe it.
But the main reason I'm posting about it is to introduce a new theme. Imbug is a new theme that looks rather cool and is available to registered users. I'm still pondering the header image of that theme and will play with it more as time permits. I also need to fix the hover and visited link colors so they'll change upon action - again, as time permits. So, if some of you can test it out and let me know what you think I'd appreciate it because I'm thinking of using it for the default theme of tuxmachines. So, let me know. I think it's pretty cool looking and a bit more modern.
And let me know if you spot any other elements that are missing or broken since the updates.
Thanks,
susan

Samsung, Red Hat to Work on Linux Drivers for Future TechThe metaverse is expected to uproot system design as we know it, and Samsung is one of many hardware vendors re-imagining data center infrastructure in preparation for a parallel 3D world. Samsung is working on new memory technologies that provide faster bandwidth inside hardware for data to travel between CPUs, storage and other computing resources. The company also announced it was partnering with Red Hat to ensure these technologies have Linux compatibility. |

new theme
Random suggestions on the new theme.
It's different.
Not all of the color scheme works well.
Some "boxes" have space between them, others do not.
Some "boxes" have rounded corners - others do not.
From "Distrowatch" down, having the subtitles in "white" against "light blue" is pretty hard to read.
Between the left sidebar and the bottom section, you have alot of news feeds. Not sure they're all that useful? Most people have their own new feeds/readers. If it's not "worthy" of article space, why is it worthy of webpage space? If you're going for a cleaner/modern look - that ain't helping.
Not a big fan of taking up 1/4 of the vertical space for the header graphic. Especially one that does nothing to brand your domain.
The ad box to the right of the header graphic doesn't line up - that huge shift in horizontal flow is hard on the eyes and looks tacky.
Not sure that the color scheme exactly screams tech (more like talks in a loud voice saying "country club").
The "Original Content" box when it floats allows text from below to word wrap up to the right of the banner ad.
But, those are all minor "fixes", overall it's a better/newer look. Definitely worth putting more work into.
Theme tweaking is a pain in the ass - but it's usually worth it when you get a nice new clean design.
re: new theme
yeah, I liked it at first and ran it for a coupla days, but some of the issues you noticed killed it for me. It doesn't seem to interpret the "center" tag, floating text in the Original Content box....
I'm not real proficient with those drupal themes files as it is, then some of the newer ones are almost completely different.
I think that theme will end up being disabled.
Thanks.
