Disgruntled with Fedora
A lot of people who visit this site know I usually recommend Fedora Linux to people looking for a good distribution. However I can no longer do this as I don’t consider Fedora to be the best any more. There are various reasons, I wouldn’t just jump ship over one problem.
Problem #1: Updates Policy – https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Updates_Policy
Fedora and the group of people running the show (FESCo) have decided that they need to be more conservative with updates. Their aimed goal is to make sure as time goes on that a release receives less updates the longer its out. The policy itself mandates that no updates be allowed that modify the user experience. This means that every time KDE releases in the middle of a Fedora release, the KDE SIG will need permission from FESCo to get it into the stable repository. I’m a KDE user first, and Fedora user second. This policy does not fly with me, and I was just going to use an alternate repository to get the latest KDE but then other stuff cropped up.
Problem #2: GCC 4.5 w/o Link Time Optimization – gcc-4.5-RH in F14
