Red Hat takeover talk heats up ahead of press conference

Someday, rumors that Red Hat (NYSE: RHT) will be bought out by a larger rival, will come true. Is that day at hand?

Rumors swirled – again – on Monday that the world’s top Linux open source developer and service provider was in the cross hairs of another firm. This time, the interested buyer was said to be SAP.

Adding fuel to the talk, Raleigh-based Red Hat said its management team will host an online press conference on Wednesday at 11 a.m.

A discussion about Red Hat’s “Technology Roadmap” is promised.

Of course, the specifics of the media event was not disclosed.

businesswire.com (PR): The North Carolina Technology Association (NCTA) announced today that Matthew Szulik, Chairman of the Board of Directors for Red Hat, has been named winner of NCTA’s 2010 Outstanding Achievement award. The award honors Szulik for his consistent efforts to advance technology throughout his career and is one of NCTA’s 21 distinct awards celebrating innovation and excellence in North Carolina technology. Szulik will provide remarks at NCTA’s annual “0021” Awards gala, presented with title sponsor Grant Thornton to be held at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel and Convention Center in Durham, N.C. from 6-9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 10. The theme for this year’s event is “A License to Excel” and more than 500 business and technology leaders from across the state are expected to be in attendance.
