Linux wins court case agains Microsoft
A Quebec court ruled a provincial agency was wrong to install Microsoft software on its computers without allowing others, such as Linux dealers, to bid on the lucrative contract, AFP learned Friday.
The province's public pension fund administrator (Régie des rentes du Québec) spent 720,000 Canadian dollars (686,000 US) beginning in the fall of 2006 to install Microsoft software on its computers.
Quebec Superior Court Judge Denis Jacques ruled the province should have searched for alternatives as required by its own rules for expenditures over 25,000 dollars (24,000 US).
The contract went to Microsoft dealer Compugen of Richmond Hill, Ontario.

re: Linux wins court case agains Microsoft... WHAT???
Sheez, some people will sure go to great lengths to bash MS. This article has absolutely nothing to do with MS.
The court ruled against a provincial agency for not using a bidding process which included other OS options according to the govt regs.
The only thing MS is guilty of is making the OS that was used by the company awarded the contract.
I think
the writer sees it the way he does because it's known that MS will indeed get involved in the sales arena to keep or gain customers. It's been seen before in the bigger accounts and high profile accounts MS gets directly involved.
and it's not like MS has the best history for trying to keep the other kids out of the pool ya know.
so it is a stretch to a degree, but it also still shows how much people remember the bad business methods.
just sayin
