Debian Doesn’t Love Me!
Debian doesn’t love me. I dunno what I did to incur such defiance, but one thing is for sure: I’m very grateful for the folks at Mepis, and Canonical, Sidux, and others who can tame Debian and make it usable by ordinary folks. I had Lenny installed, with Xfce. Really nice, rock-stable. The apps were a little out of date, but I don’t care about having all the latest stuff. I just like it to be reliable.
But Xfce in Lenny wasn’t very configurable for me. Add a launcher to the panel, but I have no applications menu from which to choose. If I added Icedove (the mail client) from usr/share/applications, for example, or from /bin, I could designate it, choose an icon for it, and there it is on the panel all nice and pretty. But if you click on it, Icedove doesn’t open. “Child process” wouldn’t load. I could add applets, but not applications. Fine.
