Wintec AMP-X PC2-5400 DDR2
DDR2 memory has numerous changes in requirements compared to DDR which includes new signaling features such as on Die Termination more commonly referred to as ODT, BGA packaging and a lower power requirement compared to DDR with VDD at 1.8V and VDDQ at 1.8V as well which is always a bonus for lower heat dissipation.
Memory module and kit description directly from the manufacturer:
"AMP-X Gamer Memory is designed, optimized and tested to support intensive gaming and breathtaking performance. The 675MHz guarantees that users will achieve maximum bandwidth utilization without any compromise in stability. Dual Channel Kits with matched memory pairs are also available for those seeking additional performance and benchmark gains! All AMP-X Gamer memory modules feature integrated aluminum heat spreaders (with thermal paste) for optimum thermal dispersion and increased performance."
Conclusion
I believe that DDR2 has a very promising future especially with lower latencies as we witnessed the same situation with DDR as it matured. I would like to conclude the PC-5400 reviews with a final roundup in the future as we are still awaiting dual channel memory kits to arrive from various manufacturers.
I would highly recommend the AMP-X PC2-5400 modules for use on any i925XE chipset based enthusiast board even if the end user is air cooling their CPU as the older i925X chipset will definitely limit taking full advantage of them. The end user can use lower timing values and achieve bandwidth close to running the maximum speed that is achievable with slack timing values as seen above. This also validates the warning made by the manufacturer that not all systems or boards are able to achieve the full 675MHz or PC-5400 performance capabilities due to chipset or board limitations. I believe the enthusiasts utilizing liquid cooling or systems based on vapor compression is able to take full adavantage of these high performance DDR2 modules until the release of more cost effective 1066MHz FSB and higher processors as the multiplier is locked for retail units.

Samsung, Red Hat to Work on Linux Drivers for Future TechThe metaverse is expected to uproot system design as we know it, and Samsung is one of many hardware vendors re-imagining data center infrastructure in preparation for a parallel 3D world. Samsung is working on new memory technologies that provide faster bandwidth inside hardware for data to travel between CPUs, storage and other computing resources. The company also announced it was partnering with Red Hat to ensure these technologies have Linux compatibility. |
