The Many Breeds of Ubuntards

Ubuntu

Like most religions, Ubuntu has different factions among its followers. There are the die hards, the excited newbies, the evangelists, and the old-timers among others. They may vary in degrees of knowledge, experience, willingness to learn, and maturity, but they all have one thing in common: they’re all Ubuntards.

The Die Hard

Bio: The Die Hard is out in force on Ubuntu forums and social media, commenting on blogs and tweeting about the latest upcoming Ubuntu features. The drivel this guy spews is inane and forgettable stuff, characterized by comments that treat Ubuntu as if it is the only distribution in existence. He downloaded Ubuntu 2 years ago after seeing his leet hax0r friend running fluxbox at university.

Blog Title: WTF Ubuntu FTW

Ubuntu Flavor: Ubuntu Alpha pre-release

Experience Level: Moderate

Catch Phrase: “I can’t wait for Karmic, it’s supposed to boot in 10 seconds and the new boot splash is AWESOME!”

Commentary like this is the type of juvenile, over the top zealotry that gives Linux a bad name. To say this guys rants are offensive is a gross understatement. There are many places in the Linux community to have intelligent discourse on one distro versus another. This website should be one of them, not a clearinghouse for scummy trash talk. The internet is a big place - flush this detritus down the toilet and let it find another resting place with the rest of the hate speech.

humor

oh come on man, where's your sense of humor?

Ubuntards

Yeh links like this, helios blog and beranger have no place on this site. BTW why was my previous post deleted? All I said as haha that's mean.

"Yeh links like this..."

You're putting the Blog of Helios in with those that are offensive? Are you kidding?

You musta forgot to click the Post button after preview. I didn't delete any posts. I didn't even see it.

re-tards

I agree that this is not a worthy post for tuxmachines.
The English taunt "'tard" or "retard" for a mentally retarded person may be funny, as popularized by theregister.co.uk who add "-tard" to the end of anyone they want to make fun of, but when you think about it, it is rather offensive.

I thought it summed up a lot

I thought it summed up a lot of ubuntu users who have been pissing me off for years

Yup. Seems to sum em up.

How Awful

Yes, the article is completely wrong.....

It's UNoobTards - get it right already - geeeeeesh!

Amusing

Whether it's Ubuntards, or vonskippys UNoobTards, I'm familiar with some of the characters described in the blog.

Funny stuff.

Ubuntu Tiresome Troll

The whole "let's make fun of people who use Ubuntu" schtick was amusing for a little while, but it's gotten really old.

In honor of this guy's blog, I will go install Ubuntu on another computer this weekend.

the year of the linux never came

Thanks to people like this, the year of linux never came and never will. When something is making it to the top you pull it down. This is always the down side of being popular, people with "minor-mentality" will go against you (sad story, ubuntu is not an exemption).

Anyway... I agree it is offensive

Atang1. You are still using

Atang1. You are still using WinME?????
You must be the only person I've come across that installed that heap of doodah and kept it.

  • How To Install MongoDB on AlmaLinux 9 - idroot

In this tutorial, we will show you how to install MongoDB on AlmaLinux 9. For those of you who didn’t know, MongoDB is a high-performance, highly scalable document-oriented NoSQL database. Unlike in SQL databases where data is stored in rows and columns inside tables, in MongoDB, data is structured in JSON-like format inside records which are referred to as documents. The open-source attribute of MongoDB as a database software makes it an ideal candidate for almost any database-related project. This article assumes you have at least basic knowledge of Linux, know how to use the shell, and most importantly, you host your site on your own VPS. The installation is quite simple and assumes you are running in the root account, if not you may need to add ‘sudo‘ to the commands to get root privileges. I will show you the step-by-step installation of the MongoDB NoSQL database on AlmaLinux 9. You can follow the same instructions for CentOS and Rocky Linux.

  • Self-host a Ghost Blog With Traefik

Ghost is a very popular open-source content management system. Started as an alternative to WordPress and it went on to become an alternative to Substack by focusing on membership and newsletter. The creators of Ghost offer managed Pro hosting but it may not fit everyone's budget. Alternatively, you can self-host it on your own cloud servers. On Linux handbook, we already have a guide on deploying Ghost with Docker in a reverse proxy setup. Instead of Ngnix reverse proxy, you can also use another software called Traefik with Docker. It is a popular open-source cloud-native application proxy, API Gateway, Edge-router, and more. I use Traefik to secure my websites using an SSL certificate obtained from Let's Encrypt. Once deployed, Traefik can automatically manage your certificates and their renewals. In this tutorial, I'll share the necessary steps for deploying a Ghost blog with Docker and Traefik.
