Of Macs & Tux, More on Web Browsers
I wrote about Safari version 2.0.2 that came with the 10.4.3 update from Apple a few issues ago. If I remember correctly, I did mention that it now passes the ACID2 test. I think this is the first web browser that supports web standards. Kudos to Apple for releasing this.
Firefox released version 1.5 beta 2. I still have not installed it since the first beta had lots of bugs that made me revert back to 1.0.7. Version 1.0.7 fails the ACID2 test, though. I am hoping that 1.5, once released, will properly render the page. It will then be the second standards-compliant web browser but only if it is released before the other browsers.
I have not tested Opera yet but I am sure that the developers are working pretty hard to pass the ACID2 test as well. If I recall, there is a new version coming up soon - so watch this space. I will give a brief review once I get my hands on it.
Camino, the Mac-only browser that is based on the same rendering engine as Firefox is also on the 1.0b1 version. It renders pages as fast as Firefox and with it, it also fails the ACID2 test. So, if Firefox gets to pass it, chances are Camino will ace it as well.
