ONE reason why OS X is better than Vista and Linux
The iTWire Vista Vs. Linux battle has been great fun to watch unfold, however it does seem to have missed the point that Apple Mac OS X is better than them both...
Forget 10 reasons why Vista is better than Linux, or 20 reasons why Linux is better than Vista. All you really need to know is that there is one single reason why Apple Mac OS X is better than them both.
That reason is simple usability. A single word that encompasses everything about the Apple approach to an Operating System.
You might consider that usability is wrapped up in terms of security. Certainly Apple users do not have to worry anywhere near as much as Windows users, even 'the most secure Windows OS ever' Vista users about malware, infection and system compromise.
Now there are no doubt many people jumping up and down at this point waving the red card at me and saying that Linux is just as secure, just as capable of beating Vista on the security argument.

Samsung, Red Hat to Work on Linux Drivers for Future TechThe metaverse is expected to uproot system design as we know it, and Samsung is one of many hardware vendors re-imagining data center infrastructure in preparation for a parallel 3D world. Samsung is working on new memory technologies that provide faster bandwidth inside hardware for data to travel between CPUs, storage and other computing resources. The company also announced it was partnering with Red Hat to ensure these technologies have Linux compatibility. |

Wasnt OSX the first to fall in the PWN 2 OWN contest.?
Ultimately, any Apple OS is
Ultimately, any Apple OS is equal to Linux.
Apple OS's are designed to run on "closed" systems, meaning that the hardware and specs are limited to what Apple wants to put together, making it for them to focus on a smaller set of drivers, etc...
Also, Apple provides one interface for users to work with. Linux as a whole offers a variety to choose from and various distros offer their own presentation.
It's not as fair to say Apple OS is more usable than Linux , it would be better for them to pick a distro as the one distro will be more relative to what they offer. If they want to compare themselves against Fedora or Ubuntu, etc... that makes more sense.
And again, Apple OS's are not free in any way you look at the term.
Steve Jobs and co are as much proprietary fiends as Bill Gates and Microsoft ever was.
Apple has created their own little world to run on their own chosen hardware, in a closed off world, it isn't that hard to bring the best out of the system, you have limited the possible problems, reduced the scope of hardware concerns.
I'm not knocking Apple, believe it or not, the system they offer has been fine tuned in a streamlined environment to offer those who are willing to pay a premium for being attended to. Those who want to and can afford to pay for that, more power to you.
But Apple is not "better" than Linux.
