March of the Penguins in Portland
On October 13th and 14th, Oregon State University's Open Source Lab is sponsoring the first Government Open Source Conference (GOSCON).Among the featured speakers are Linda Hamel, general counsel of the Information Technology Division for the commonwealth of Massachusetts, Stuart Cohen, CEO of the Open Source Development Labs (OSDL) and Dan Frye, vice president of Linux Technology for IBM.
The following day on October 15th, Penguin Day Portland will "bring together nonprofit staff, tech providers, geeks, consultants, and open source software developers for a day of learning and conversation."

Samsung, Red Hat to Work on Linux Drivers for Future TechThe metaverse is expected to uproot system design as we know it, and Samsung is one of many hardware vendors re-imagining data center infrastructure in preparation for a parallel 3D world. Samsung is working on new memory technologies that provide faster bandwidth inside hardware for data to travel between CPUs, storage and other computing resources. The company also announced it was partnering with Red Hat to ensure these technologies have Linux compatibility. |
