There are way too many Linux distributions.
I support Linux and the free software movement. I appreciate all the hard work that the community has put into free software. However, we need a solid base of what Linux is. Every distribution their own package management, file system structure, and set of tools that is different.
I think that having hundreds of distributions is pointless because how many ways do people need to install the same software? I tried distribution hopping and always felt disappointed in the end because I came up with the same result as the system that was installed on the computer. I do understand that some good came from distro-forking. Ubuntu is the greatest example on how a good distribution like Debian was modified to be Linux for human beings. But what about all the little distros out there?
