Are AMD and Intel close to settling?

THE WAR DRUMS have gone silent and there's no sign of smoke signals in the antitrust case AMD launched against Intel back at the end of June.

Let's hope the two firms aren't hatching up a settlement, because that would deprive us of so much spectator sport in what promises to be the chip event of 2006.

There's several factors that make us wonder whether lawyers for Intel and AMD are hatching up a plan. The first is that the only documents filed in court since the beginning of this month have been Judge Joseph Farnan signing orders on the 8th of September saying that he agreed to deals between Dell/AMD and Rackable/AMD preserving documents in the case.
