Open source can help newsrooms
Aranelles is responsible for the development of Open Source software solutions and predominantly focuses on developing newsrooms. Aranelles applies the Open Source CMS to many newsroom all over Africa, which is enabling newsrooms to become streamlined and bureaucracy free!
Aranelles is very involved in mobilising a CMS called CAMPSITE. A CMS in a newsroom scenario is a system of digital article submission working similarly to a physical newsroom, enhancing the streamlined workflow between various newsroom members.
Most would be terrified by a Content Management Sytem in an African context because of the cost, implementation and equipment! It is however the most logical solution for Africa says Aranelles who has come to experience and see African newsrooms thrive on such systems. "Open source means free software!" the only hitch is that if one changes the source code of the template, then one has to share the changes with the public stated under the General Public License (GPL).
